Krispy Kreme Donuts: the new pasalubong ng bayan

When I was a little kid, the Pasalubong ng Bayan were donuts. Clearly this blog post isn't about the donuts from that brand, which I still appreciate to this day.

I really hate to say it but Krispy Kreme Donuts HAS sort of become the new pasalubong ng bayan (no pun intended). I hope no donut company would kill me for associating their tagline with another brand. Haha!

I can't help it though. Among the very few times that I went to Manila, this usually is what the people from Davao expect from me as a pasalubong. And yes, the same thing goes for me when I'm the one who's expecting for a pasalubong from Manila. Hihi! When you're at a Krispy Kreme branch, people would get the damned donuts by dozens. And I even saw one carrying around 10 boxes! He must have been going for the record!

ND-HRM Exhibit at UIC

Among the courses offered by the The University of the Immaculate Conception are Nutrition and Dietetics and Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM). These two courses are the most delicious of all. Lol! Simply because they hold annual food events and exhibits that either let people sample their food or be in a fine-dining event with a full out buffet from various cuisines. See how delicious this course is? :)

The photos you're seeing below are a part of one of their annual exhibits. These are created by students. It was a shame that the spectators weren't allowed to sample these mouth-watering treats. They were all for the eyes only. Nevertheless, they were yummy foods for the eyes! Kudos to the ND-HRM students of UIC who participated in this event.

Chippens Blueberry Cheesecake: Heaven in a small plate

Once upon a time, I would go to Chippens Restaurant for a great buffet. But nowadays, I go there to get my own heaven in a small plate that has a serving of their blueberry cheesecake. The Diminishing Returns Law does NOT apply to my cravings for this heavenly Chippens dessert. Lol! I just can't get enough of it. In fact, writing this entry is making me go there now and so I would have to stop. :D Later, guys!

Grub Resto Cafe's Spaghetti and Meatballs: A Must Try

If you're a fan of spaghetti, and that of the Italian type, then you'd be a huge fan of Grub's very own Spaghetti and Meatballs. This rich and creamy pasta's taste has a hint of herbs that I couldn't fathom. The reason being the fact that the only herbs whose scent I'm familiar to is the Rosemary and Basil and I'm doubtful of these two's existence in Grub's dish. (Okay, maybe the basil, but not definitely not the Rosemary).

You would maybe know better about what the darned herbs are once you taste this dish. It's spaghetti that is the keeper type. You're in for a treat.

Joniel's Cakes and Pastries

My sister is a sucker for the sweets of Joniel's Cakes and Pastries. So when my nephew, her son, baby Lance turned 2 years old, she most certainly bought the cake from there.

It's really a favorite of mine, but their cakes are quite good. The chocolate cake in particular, is very rich in flavor. It's a little too sweet for me. But for my sister it's perfect. What I do like about it though is that it's incredibly heavy! It's fully-packed chocolate cake that rarely has holes in it. lol! I actually mean those tiny little holes inside cakes that make them puffy sometimes and not so rich.

Anyway, here are a couple of photos of our dear Baby Lance's 2nd Birthday cake from Joniel's. Happy birthday, Baby Lance!

You can find Joniel's at Jacinto Ext. Street, Davao City. It's right across Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Apple Pie at Seagull Mountain Resort

Seagull Mountain Resort doesn't have a lot on their menu. Apple pie is one of the few things they do have and I have to say it...tastes...awesome! I think the powdery layer on top adds some sort of twist to it. It's incredibly delicious. Not too sweet. Not too fruity. Has enough cinnamon in it. All ingredients seem to be amounted perfectly in this dessert creation of theirs. I surely will be getting an entire box when I'd get the chance to go back there. I didn't get to do so the last time coz they were out of it :(

Yurushi Japanese Restaurant: The cheapest and most delicious Katsudon in town

Katsudon is my favorite Japanese rice dish. And Yurushi, is the one restaurant that has the tastiest Katsudon ever! I've tried around 5 or 6 other Katsudon from other restaurants, Japanese and not. But nothing is ever comparable to the one that Yurushi has.

Yurushi is actually a sort of Eatery right at Uyanguren Street. It's a pretty simple place. It has got airconditioning upstairs. You wouldn't like the bathroom very much but you most certainly WILL love the Katsudon. Lol! Their Gyudon is pretty good too. But you'd go there for the....yes...Katsudon which costs only...wait for it...around 60Php. No, you're not blind and you read it right..it's only for 60Php. :)

Yellow Hauz Coffee Shop: My College Hangout

For two reasons, Yellow Hauz was a favorite college hangout for us. One, it's very near the uni's location. Two, it's very cozy back there, nice lights, cozy seats. Three, they've got good food. Four, price is reasonable. And five, there's more than two reasons to love this place.

I've hung out here hundreds of times. During club meetings, in-between long breaks, during the cramming pre-exams and depressing post-exams. College. Today is a few days after graduation and I could easily say "those were the days".
